About Me

From teacher to designer

I’m John! I specialize in building and optimizing experiences backed by research and data.

I taught high school chemistry for 3 years and discovered how my passion for teaching translated to design. My loves of building relationships, finding the most effective way to tell a story, and creating the best experience through iteration make me a better designer and educator.

Learn more about my journey in this podcast episode from "UX of EdTech":

Teaching high school for 3 years gave me a strong foundation to become a product designer.

Empathy & Understanding – I gained deep understanding of my students' needs and adapted my teaching accordingly.

Effective Communication & Storytelling – I simplified complex concepts and made them engaging to my students.

Iterative Problem-Solving – Students are the harshest critics which enabled me to constantly adjust lesson plans based on their feedback.

Research & Data-Driven Decisions – I analyzed student performance to improve learning outcomes.

Rock climbing, birding, reading, and playing board games are a few of my hobbies.

In my free time, you can find me working on my outdoor climbing projects, looking for new birds, or diving into a new book.
